Giveaway Winner–Square Foot Gardening

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

The winner of the Square Foot Gardening giveaway is Jamie from Rhino Rhamblings.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Is a busy wife and a brave mom of 2 boys.  She is currently trying to create a peaceful haven in the midst of a kitchen remodel.  She recently blogged about an amazing Valentines Day family night where she made red mashed potatoes and heart shaped dinner rolls.  To top it all off, she made Oreo truffles with her boys!  I’m definitely going to be bookmarking that celebration.  Those Oreo truffles are on my list for when Wiggles can tolerate me eating chocolate again.

Go check out her blog and make sure to leave a comment!  I’ve got to go find a napkin to wipe the drool off my keyboard from reading about Oreo truffles.

Just a  heads up, keep checking back here for more giveaways in coming months.  I’ve got a crazy idea to share with my blog readers some of my thrift store bounty–because we all know I need another excuse to go shopping at a thrift store.

Square Foot Gardening Giveaway

Square Foot Gardening by Mel BartholomewI am itching for spring. This morning I woke up to the sound of a little bird singing way up in the cherry tree. Some day soon (in a couple of months), that cherry tree will be covered in blossoms. About that same time, the whole yard will be filled in a fragrant cloud–apple, cherry, plum, pear. The lilacs are my favorite spring scent–heavy, sultry. The scent of lilacs seems to wrap all around you like a silk dress and a strand of pearls.

But that’s not what I came here to tell you about! I wanted to tell you about the books I’ve been reading, specifically about the Square Foot Gardening book.

I’m convinced the Square foot gardening method is the easiest method to understand and probably one that I most likely to be successful at doing.  For the past two weeks, I’ve been poring over a square-foot gardening book, absorbing as much information as I can, and dreaming of spring.  I’ve even decided to try my hand at growing a few vegetables indoors in my dining room window.

Last year, I had my own small teeny tiny garden.  The owner of our apartment wouldn’t let us dig up the grass.  I did have a handful of tomatoes for my own tomato plants, and I realize why I don’t like store-bought tomatoes.  Since I think that every one should have a homegrown tomato experience — or fresh corn, sweet peas, or three-legged carrots :) — I’m giving away a copy of the square-foot gardening book.

Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.

Don’t Panic: October is Frugal Living month

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Allow me to state the obvious: the future is uncertain. I’m sure you’ve been watching the news, you know that the economy is unstable. Don’t panic! Right now is not a time to panic, instead this is a good time to make a plan, tighten up your belt, and exercise caution.

October is frugal living month here at Dandelions and Daydreams. The articles this month will help you tighten the budget and save some money. I challenge you to plan for the future by managing finances and stocking up on necessities to help prepare for whatever the future holds.

Over the next month, I’ll be testing frugal tips, posting tightwad recipes, and stocking up my pantry right along with you.

There is an old saying that goes:

“A woman can throw more out the back door with a teaspoon than her husband can bring in the front door with a wheelbarrow.”

It’s time to make sure we’ve put away that teaspoon and closed the back door.
