Overheard: Thrift store dressing room

There was a young girl and her mom in a dressing room while I was perusing the clothes racks looking for some new summer tops.  The girl sounded like she was about 5 or 6 years old.

Girl: “That one is so pretty, Momma!  You should get it.”

Mom (sighing):  “Unfortunantly, it’s too big for me.”

Girl: “Maybe you could buy it now and grow into it next year.

This was a cute story. And it reminded me of the time one of our kids asked about the tags on new clothes. I was expecting another baby at the time and my mother had gotten an outfit for the baby to wear home from the hospital. My son wanted to know why there were tags on it so I told him that it was so that we could take the clothes back to the store if they did not fit. He looked up at me and asked, “Mom, if the new baby doesn’t fit can we take it back?”
