Love

God Created humans to know and love God and others
Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus replied: ‘love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your sould and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.

I do not act as the world thinks a Christian should because my salvation depends on my behavior. My salvation is a gift granted to me through the blood of Jesus Christ. I behave this way because the people around me will judge my heart by my actions. I am not trying to seek their approval. I am trying to point them towards Christ. I must evaluate my actions on the basis of Love. Does my life demonstrate love for the Lord? Does my life demonstrate love towards my neighbors.

Love: An attitude that places the other person as more valuable than yourself.

Glorify God

Friday, April 18th, 2003

I exist to glorify God.

God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in him.”

~~Dr. John Piper, Desiring God

How would my life change if I began each day with that in mind?

Religion

“If you can make a religion look absurd, then you have probably failed to understand that religion.”
~~Ravi Zacharias

It is impossible to prove to a person that their religion is wrong. That is the work of the Holy Spirit. My job is to present the truth found in the Word of God; my job is not to disprove your religion or prove Christianity.

Write

Sunday, April 6th, 2003

I want to write. It is almost suffocating. I can’t hardly stand it any more. What if my life passes away and my one dream is never realized. The problem is starting. I have no story line. I have no characters, I have no friends. How can one write a story without a story.

I have always dreamed of writing the next Little House series, or Anne of Green Gables or Little Women. I want to write books that little children will read for generations. I want to write a book that little girls will fall in love with. But where do I start. We all have to start somewhere. But I don’t like starting with imperfection. Can’t I just write my classic novel on the first try. No, probably not. I probably hae to work at it the same as everyone else

Free Will

God gave humans free will. So what exactly does that mean? I used to think that free will meant that we have the choice of what to do and God knows what will happen if we choose either A or B. But I don’t think that anymore.

God put the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden so that humans would have free will. In other words, so that humans had the choice to obey or disobey. God fore-knows the choices that we are going to make, and has made his plans around those choices. In one sense, we don’t have a choice about what we are going to do because we are following God’s plans. But we have the right to go against God’s Laws and that is where free will comes in.

Animals don’t have free will. If God tells an animal to do something, the animal has to do it. In the Bible, you never read about an animal arguing with God. Take Noah’s story for example. The animals did not have a choice but to go to Noah and get in the ark because God commanded them. Noah, however, had the option of not building an ark. We know that Moses argued with God about His plans. Moses didn’t have to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt just because God said so, Moses chose to do so.

At the same time, God knew that Noah would build an ark at God’s commanding. God knew that Moses would lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt. God has known since the beginning of time when someone is going to disobey, but God has an ultimate plan.

God must have to look at the world through a microscope and also through a telescope. Through the microscope, God hated watching Jesus Christ, His only Son be crucificed. Through the telescope, God could see the ultimate purpose of Jesus’ death on the cross. God looks at our sins the same way. He hates our sin, but he knew before we even thought about sinning that we were going to sin.

Okay, This is something that is impossible to explain fully. I think I’ll leave it at one of those 5th dimension God things. God transcends Time and Space. He is infinite, I can’t even begin to understand Him.
